Justus
Uitermark (1978) is a researcher and lecturer at the department of
sociology of Erasmus University, Rotterdam. In 2010, he defended his
PhD-thesis ‘Dynamics of Power in Dutch Integration Politics’ (cum
laude). He currently is working on the dynamics of minority politics,
the governance of urban marginality and the role of networks in
perpetuating and contesting power relations.

Uitermark
has published books and articles on a wide variety of subjects,
including housing policy, rescaling processes, drug policy, social
movements and urban governance. These works have appeared in, among
other journals, Progress in Human Geography, Urban Studies, Antipode,
Political Geography, International Journal of Urban and Regional
Research, Journal of Drug Issues, Volume, Space & Polity,
International Journal of Drug Policy, Public Administration, Addiction
Research & Theory, Environment and Planning A, Journal of Housing
and the Built Environment, Volume, and Area. Before starting his
PhD-research at the ASSR, Uitermark worked at the Centre for Drug
Research at the University of Amsterdam and the Department of Geography
and Planning at the University of Nijmegen.
