Loïc Wacquant's public lecture at the University of Edinburgh
Loïc Wacquant, one of the founding members of the
Advanced Urban Marginality network, visited the University of Edinburgh in October 2010 to deliver a public lecture and a workshop with postgraduate researchers. Both events were a resounding success! Afterwards, the postgrads were enthusing about the workshop, which enabled students from across the university to critically engage with the renowned scholar, introduce their research to Loïc and the other participants, and challenge Loïc on his more contentious writings!
The public lecture was entitled “The Ghetto as Historical Reality and Political Myth”, and was a complete sell out. Over three hundred people packed into Lecture Theatre 4 at the Appleton Tower on George Square to hear Loïc talk about his research about ghettos and the use of the word as a termanistic screen, deflecting from reality.
